Church History

CHURCH GROWTH:
From the inception in 1970, activities of the church have steadily increased and are still increasing. We started with one Sunday morning worship, a Sunday evening evangelistic service, Bible study on Wednesday night and Prayer and deliverance on Friday night. In 1988 we added a second morning worship to accommodate the growing membership. In 1993 the membership has grown to such an extent that it became necessary to add a third worship service on Sunday.

MEMBERSHIP:
The membership has grown steadily since inception. We started in 1970 with seven (7) members today we register about 2,200. This growth demonstrates to us that Calvary Pentecostal Church Inc., is meeting the spiritual and material needs of its members and the people of the community. Therefore, there is an urgent need for expansion.

CHURCH BUILDING

The first six (6) years of our existence was spent at a small building at 1627 Broadway under the initial leadership of Rev. Nicholson. The continuous growth in membership brought about the need for a much larger facility. In September 1978, with a congregation of almost two hundred (200) members, Calvary Pentecostal Church Inc., relocated to 151 Woodruff Avenue, in a facility with a capacity of five hundred people in the sanctuary and two additional levels to accommodate other church and community functions.
On June 12, 1986, the church satisfied its mortgage obligation of $140,000 with the bank well in advance of the term of the mortgage note. This was a proud occasion for all concerned. Calvary has out grown two (2) facilities, and has purchased property to construct a facility that will be able to house approximately 3,000 people in one sitting and enough space to conduct its existing community outreach programs and to pioneer new and challenging ventures.
In 1996 the members witnessed the ground breaking ceremony. This was a momentous occasion. Construction began in 1997 and on Saturday, September 8, 2001 at 10:00 am our brand new 2500-seat facility was dedicated to the honor and Glory of Almighty God.
